The Effects of High-Grade Metamorphism on Cr-Spinel from the Archean Sittampundi Complex, South India

We investigated the crystal and structural behavior of Cr-bearing spinels from Archean chromitites Sittampundi (India), which had been subjected to very high-grade metamorphism. The data show that their oxygen positional parameters are among highest ever recorded for with similar Cr# Mg# those found other occurrences. general agreement between electron microprobe Mössbauer indicates analyzed stoichiometric. It is therefore most likely PH2O Ptotal values as well both fugacity temperature reached during metamorphism inhibited possibility non-stoichiometry chromites, contrary what can happen in ophiolites, where has recently documented.
